Quick Credit for Specific Invoice Line Items

Modified on Wed, 6 May at 3:32 PM

Overview

This guide explains how to apply a Quick Credit Discount Credit to a specific line item on an invoice, rather than crediting the entire invoice. It covers the step-by-step process, confirmation options, and how tax adjustments are handled depending on whether the invoice is unpaid or partially paid.

This feature is useful when you need to correct a pricing error, apply a promotional discount, or resolve a customer dispute on an individual charge — without affecting any other line items on the invoice.

How It Works

When applying a Quick Credit, you can now choose which line items of an invoice should receive a discount credit, rather than applying the discount to the entire invoice. This gives you precise control over which charges receive adjustments.

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Open the invoice you want to credit.
  2. Click on the specific line item in the invoice that needs the discount.
  3. Click the Quick Credit button.
  4. Review the confirmation prompt and select one of the options below.

Confirmation Options

When prompted, you will be presented with three choices:

OptionWhat It Does
Apply discount to the invoice in generalStarts at the top and applies the discount credit to the whole invoice.
Confirm the specific lineProceeds with crediting only the line item you selected.
CancelDismisses the prompt so you can highlight a different line item for the discount.

Tax Adjustments

Unpaid Invoices

When you apply a Quick Credit to a line item on an unpaid invoice, the system will:

  1. Apply the credit to the selected line item.
  2. Automatically adjust the tax as appropriate.

Partially Paid Invoices

When applying a discount credit to a line item on a partially paid invoice:

  1. The line item amount will be discounted.
  2. The tax will NOT be adjusted.

⚠️ IMPORTANT

Invoices with a payment already applied assume you are responsible for the taxes attached to the invoice. Because payment has already been received and tax responsibility has been established, the tax will not be adjusted when a discount credit is applied to a line item on a partially paid invoice.
