Parts — Using Fractional Quantities
Parts & Inventory · How-To Guide
Overview
You would like to sell a part using fractions of a whole unit — for example 1.5, 2.75, or 3.35. Most inventory items are sold in quantities of one or more whole units, however some inventory needs to be sold as fractions of a whole.
Getting Started
Some common examples of inventory you might want to set up as fractional parts:
- Labor — If you are not using Timecards to calculate labor, you can add labor as a part instead.

- Wiring
- Conduit
- Network Cabling
Best Practices
Setting up an item to be sold as a fractional item must meet all of the following conditions:
The part must be checked for “Is ‘Labor’ part?”
The part cannot have “Additional Stock”
The part cannot be a “Component”
The part must be “Tracking Exempt”
All “Stock Information” fields must be blank
Benefits of Using Fractional Parts
Fractional parts allow you to sell specific lengths or amounts at a precise price and cost per unit:
Cables — Sell specific lengths of cabling or wiring at a set price / cost per foot.
Conduit — Sell specific lengths of conduit at a set price / cost per foot.
Labor — Use a labor ‘part’ instead of timecard calculation for a simplified way of adding labor to an invoice.
