Overview
This article explains how to remove a customer's tax-exempt status and ensure their account is correctly set up for tax billing. This is a two-part process: first, you'll update the main customer account record, and second, you'll update their recurring charges to mark each item as taxable.
Part 1: Update the Customer Account Record
Begin by removing the tax-exempt flag from the customer's main account record and assigning the correct county tax code.
- Locate the Tax Exempt checkbox. From the Customer Account, find the Tax Exempt checkbox and uncheck it.

- Open the County/MapID lookup. Click the magnifying glass icon next to the County/MapID field.

- Select the correct county. A new window will open. Find and highlight the correct county.n
- Confirm your selection. Click Select to apply the county tax code to the account.
⚠️ IMPORTANT
If the tax code you need does not exist, click Insert in the County/MapID lookup window to create it first. Once the new tax code has been created, you can then select it.
Part 2: Update the Recurring Charges
You must make sure all recurring billing items are set to "taxable." Each item must be updated individually — there is no bulk-update option.
- Open the Recurring Charges tab. Click the Recurring Charges tab on the customer account.
- Select the first item. Highlight the first recurring item in the list and click Change.

- Enable taxable status. Find the "Taxable" toggle and switch it from N (No) to Y (Yes).

- Save the item. Click OK to save the change for that item.
- Repeat for all remaining items. Repeat steps 2–4 for every other recurring item listed on the account.
- Exit the Recurring Charges screen. Once all items have been updated, click Close to exit the Recurring Charges screen.
- Save the account record. Click OK on the main customer account screen to save all your changes.
